Hello neighbors! I’m Laurel Mayo, owner of The Glass Guru of Carlsbad since 2012.  

I grew up in Brockton, MA, went to Colonial High School in Orlando, FL, and then college at CAL State and CAL Southern University in San Diego, CA where I graduated with a degree in Environmental Resources Management in 2004. I then received my Masters in 2021 in Psychology. Prior to The Glass Guru, I gained valuable trade experience as an Environmental Impact Consultant on construction sites. I then gained experience in business management by running my own franchise brokerage. During the recession, I got to know windows up close and personal through my time as a commercial window washer. 

I opened a Glass Guru franchise because I am not afraid of hard work and wanted to have a business of my own. With my experience as a franchise consultant, I knew I wanted to take advantage of the benefits of a franchise.  Finding one that also offered a recession-proof product was also important. I am extremely proud of growing a successful family business with an outstanding team who has each other’s backs.

My sister, Sherilynne who helps run The Glass Guru of Carlsbad, and I have always grown up with animals galore. We now have two dogs, Luna and Billy, and three cats, Det, Trio, and Milkshake. On weekends you might find me sailing my boat in the San Diego Harbor or Oceanside Harbor or kayaking or even scuba diving. 

Our parents, Billy and Teresa, taught us to act with integrity and never be afraid of hard work.  Most importantly, they demonstrated what matters most in life:  love and family.  We work every day, personally and professionally, to be people they would be proud of. It’s a great honor and privilege to have the opportunity to serve you and we hope to be the local glass shop you can trust and rely on for many years to come.
